Amazing food in an authentic atmosphere. Plenty of plant based options as well. You will just need to make some modifications for some menu items. An amazing place with amazing food. I highly recommend it.
Had lunch at Shimogamo Japanese Restaurant today which was opened about 15 years ago at this location. The restaurant is a rather small and cozy place but has the feel of an original Japanese restaurant. According to one of the diners the place was a bar to begin with but was turned into a restaurant in time. Its also the name of a district in Kyoto City in Japan. The menu of the restaurant is extensive and has many dishes under the headings of Shimogamo Lunch Tray, Assorted Tempura Tray, Bowl & Noodle, Curry and Vegetarian Option and much more. I had no reservations for lunch and I took the chance to wait but it is always better to make reservations. The food was delicious and the service was attentive and kind.
Great little sushi restaurant! They have a Kobe beef small plate that is absolutely phenomenal and all of the sushi and sashimi choices were very fresh and tasty. Its a nice atmosphere as well and can host a large group in the back of the restaurant too.
A welcome oasis tucked away in an unassuming corner of a strip mall. We visited on a Monday evening at about 7:30pm, we had no reservation, and we were seated at the sushi bar (our preference) by the owner. Ambiance is cozy, food is superb, service is efficient. The sushi chefs are engaging and knowledgeable. The owner is an elderly and very traditional Japanese gentleman. He will not speak to you other than to inquire as to whether you have a reservation and/or to seat you. Should you choose to dine at Shimogamo, know that you are dining there at HIS pleasure, not yours. If this puts you off, this is not the establishment for you. But if you lean toward the unfussy and elegant dining experience, this place is a must.
This place is AMAZING! Al is a great sushi chef and very personable. The place is small and cozy. Make a reservation! We lucked out and beat the busy time, but it's totally worth the wait! Great food with such a variety in types of fish and rolls, as well other options besides sushi. Chicken tenders are legit. No lie! I know that sounds funny at a sushi restaurant but try them!
